Nearly two-thirds of top-level executives expect the current recession to last another year, according to a survey released Wednesday.

I think even expecting a recovery by Q4 is optimistic.

Lets hope it does not turn into a 1930's scenario when the Dow Jones went from about 380 to 40 from 1929-1932 thats 3 1/2 years and one heck of a BIG drop

I think surveys like this are probably more meaningful than surveys of economists, who are not really "actors" in the economy so much as they are "reactors." Since business cycles are somewhat self-fulfilling, perhaps this survey indicates that companies will begin investing/hiring staff in about a year from now. In other words, their belief that the recession will end next year is enough to make it so!

May be true.. but most of the time it is difficult even for CXO's to predict future earnings. New reality is about "thrift" among many - which was ignored before. The recession also is more psychological than real: the world has not ended, I can still see children playing near my home sans worry, beautiful sunshine & smiles to strangers.

And I can still put food on the table without having to worry about future. Ergo..
