Yep, I don't see any reason why the government should step in to bail out these companies. They never bothered about the common people and just made profits...

I was listening to NPR this morning. The reporter has a blurb where he said that the government was working backwards. While the average American needed a bailout, the government is busy exhausting funds for the big wigs. He said that we may use so much bailing out big business, that there will be too little left to provide universal health care and tax relief for the middle and lower class. And AIG? They should just know better.

I totally agree to let the bigwigs learn their life lesson. After all, this is business - they knew the risks. But what about the GM and Ford workers? What happens to them, and what happens to their families?

I agree with you all but read the Pelosi articles. The counterpoint is that GM is too big to fail because of the ripple effect. I am neutral on that argument, just sayin'.

I think we should purchase them and convert them into alternative energy manufactures. Wind, solar, etc.

Yeah, I can see the point of the "ripple effect" argument. I think that the experts figure that they are going to have to bail some out eventually, and that bailing out the ones at the top is a cheaper, and more efficient, way of doing it. But business is business. At what point do you draw the line. All businesses are ran by ordinary people. Should all failing businesses get a bail-out?

The very same thought occurred to me. But the jobs lost would be massive. I live in a town that employs thousands of people who work in auto-related businesses. Though it is hard to stomach yet more bailouts.
