As a general rule, gifts of any kind suck. By definition, they are things a person would never get for themselves, so they are certainly not priority items. That used to be OK, when people had few things. But now when we have so much more than we can use, buying gifts is a massive waste of economic resources and an incredible drain on the environment.

If you read the article you would see that a majority of the items are not physical goods. Concert tickets, spa services (for the lady in your life), gym membership, liquor store gift card (for the 20 something in your life), etc.
