People need milestones to see that they are on the right road. The milestones don't mean anything more than that.

Psychological and technical barrier, that's all. Means the markets have nominally recovered "fully" from where they were this time last year. Doesn't mean fundamentals have recovered, though.

It's important to not get carried away with barriers like this. If the media plays something up it's probably best to be cautious. It's certainly no indication to buy (perhaps it's time to sell and take some profits!) =)

the 10K maybe a psychological barrier but not a technical barrier nor does it indicate anything about the economy.

@financialhighway I agree. There is nothing more technical about 10,000 than about 10,327 , other than it is easier to divide (and hopefully there will be no need to divide, right?)
