Evaluating My Thanksgiving Dinner Scorecard

This year, I'm hosting Thanksgiving dinner for 16 people at my house. I've finished shopping for groceries and so here is my cost analysis of this year's dinner.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm guessing you don't live in California? I just did my second round of shopping for a "1st Annual ThxGiving Cocktail Party" my wife and I are having on Friday for 18-23 people (we can't get an accurate headcount yet). I've already spent $150+ on food items and some "kitchen tools, gear, etc" and still have more to buy, including some soda, alcohol and a few other items. I'm not including the money I spent out of my own pocket to get additional kitchen gear my (new) wife and I didn't have. Next year, maybe I'll make dinner instead of cocktails.

I live in southern California. Granted, a cocktail party is going to be much more expensive. The Honeybee and I used to host a Christmas party for 50 people every year and we'd spend a significant amount of money. Whenever you are spending money on alcohol and kitchen tools, your costs are going to be high.

Too true. I should have done a dinner party instead. Silicon Valley grocery stores, however, seem a bit more expensive than in SoCal. (My sis-in-law lives in SD.)
