It took me 1 phone call and 5 mins last week to close my BofA account :) although I did try waiting at the bank for 30 mins first....

This is a good reason to have an online account at ING or Ally or any bank with a free ACH transfer service. Before I closed accounts at BofA, I transferred out the money using the ACH service at Ally. I was then able to close the BofA account via secure email.

I have an ING account, and it didn't even occur to me.. To be honest I didn't think when i started it would be a big deal closing it this way, but it ended up being more involved than i had hoped. Next time i transfer right over to my ING. :)
