The release of the iPhone 3G boosted Apple's smartphone market share to 17 percent last summer, according to a recent report. In the process, it sent a lot of new customers to AT&T, largely to the detriment of Verizon. However, there's an Android on the horizon -- T-Mobile says pre-sales of the G1 were much larger than it anticipated.
