Apple Inc. pulled a 99-cent iPhone game called "Baby Shaker" from its iTunes store Wednesday after its premise - quiet a crying baby with a vigorous shake - prompted outrage.

This was one crazy story. I wonder if this is going to bode well for Apple's stakeholders.

I'm not sure I agree. The fact is that it's an obscenely offensive application that, if abused, can actually *kill* babies. You think coverage like that isn't warranted?

btw EquitySweat, I know a few Apple developers who have had applications rejected without question from the Apple store. They weren't offensive or even problematic (IMO) at all. The fact that this slipped through the cracks is egregious. Yes, the coverage is warranted, and I'm glad it happened.

Rest assured I'm not suggesting that baby shaking is a good idea. I simply think that on any store where you have a "gatekeeper" that something unsavory will get through. They apologize and take it down and move on.

Yeah, but sometimes those gatekeepers are irrationally strict for no reason, like with the few legitimate apps my colleagues have written that never got accepted by the Apple Store for no reason. And then there's this. It doesn't make much sense to me. Of course people are going to go up in arms about it. Some stupid Apple employee let this go through. Was he stoned? I really don't know.
