This video's premise is wrong. There's no 2-year contract for the iPad data plan. There's no obligation whatsoever. What's more, the bottom end iPad with WiFi-only is $499, and could potentially increase productivity in quiet moments, say during commercials while watching TV. So you're actually better off getting an iPad than a bar of overpriced metal that'll probably drop in price sooner than the value of your iPad. (Hint: how often do you see used Apple products for sale?)

Seems reasonable to include the cost of data service as part of the cost of ownership. Who's going to buy the iPad with mobile service package without taking the mobile service?

What about silver? $17.50 an ounce . An iPad for $499 would still come out to be 28.5 ounces of silver. I've heard silver has the potential to reach $100!

Silver was around 40 to 50 bucks in 1980, and there is 8 times less silver above ground than gold. The price is going to the stratosphere.

@StreetWise: Well given that there's a WiFi-only model, Apple obviously believes people will take a no-3G option, since you can connect over your existing wireless network. You only really need the data plan if you plan to use the iPad on the go, in which case adding in the service cost is legit, but it also doesn't have to be for 2 years, which is what the video suggested. The iPad 3G models give you the option of selecting to go with AT&T or not at all.
